Gateway Arch (May 30, 2009) : Our camera club visited the Arch at night as a group. This was my first time shooting the arch at night. It was an interesting challenge. I was worried about being in this part of town late at night but there were families, kids playing in the lights and more importantly, security. I wouldn't go down there all alone but with a small group it's fine.

Wakeena, Multnomah and Bridal Veil Falls (October 4, 2008) : Our last day in Oregon. It was still raining on and off but we risked it anyway and saw some waterfalls along the Columbia River Gorge.

Rogue River, Union Creek, OR (September 30, 2008) : Silly Andy left his very expensive tripod at one of the overlooks in Crater Lake NP. Figuring it was gone forever we drove to our next hotel (3 hours away). On the morning of day 5 we called to see if it had been turned in. Amazingly enough it was there. A park ranger saw it and picked it up. It had my contact info on it but they hadn't called yet. Since the tripod was so expensive it was worth the drive back to get it. After picking it up we got back on course and discovered a pull-off next to these rapids and since we needed a break from the car we got out and took a few pictures.

Crater Lake National Park (September 29, 2008) : Day 4 of our Oregon trip was spent at Crater Lake. It was a heck of a drive to get there and there was an accident on the road we took that had us sitting completely still in the dark for about two hours. We stayed at some cabins on the south side of the park and the night sky was amazing. It's an interesting place but the only reason I can think to go back would be to see it with snow. That might be a trick because the place is two-three hours from anywhere. By the way, the water really is that blue, no editing tricks.

Silver Falls State Park, OR (September 27, 2008) : On day two of our Oregon trip, Lorry was still playing with her sheep stuff so I took the rental car through the back roads of central Oregon to a little park east of Salem, OR called Silver Falls State Park. They have a trail that goes past 10 waterfalls. I am not sure how long the trail is but I know I only got to see two waterfalls, South Falls and Lower South Falls. I was struck by how damp the place was and how much moss there was on everything as a result.

Mount Saint Helens National Volcanic Monument (September 26, 2008) : On the first day of our 2008 trip to Oregon I drove up to Mount Saint Helens. I had always wanted to see it since it erupted in 1980. I was only 16 then and didn't have any way to get there. I wish I had because it's not as "exciting" as I had hoped it would be. I expected to see lots of flattened trees and devastation but 30 years is a long time in nature. Things are pretty green again and all the flattened trees were harvested by the area logging companies. The area is still a "lab" of sorts to see how an area recovers from an explosion like this.
I included the signs because I felt like they really helped get me into what it was like. If you are having trouble reading them, hover your mouse over the picture and Click on 'Original' under photo sizes.

Rocky Mountain National Park in Snow (December 8-12, 2007) : Lorry and decided to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary in our favorite place. After a horrible fog/snow infested drive to Estes Park, CO (and an incident with the car battery) we spent several days in the park. It was COLD but very quiet. We didn't see many cars or people. Next time I will be more prepared for the cold so I can get more pictures.
